Organic Rankine Cycle

At a time of unpredictable energy prices and uncertain markets, energy efficiency is increasingly important and may even be the key to survival. Solutions that were unattractive only yesterday because of long payback periods are now becoming more affordable and economically viable. The development of new technologies has brought about effective changes in the use of waste heat, which can be used for electricity generation or air conditioning and process cooling.
At Inpro d.o.o. Novo mesto, we follow these trends and offer companies a variety of "new" approaches in addition to standard energy solutions, including Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC). We would like to present you in a simple way two often overlooked solutions for waste heat energy recovery.

ORC process for the production of electricity from heat Sustainable production of electricity is more relevant and necessary than ever before.

Energy processes with the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) play an important role, as they open up ways to obtain electricity and heat that were not possible in the past. In times of unpredictable energy prices and market uncertainty, energy efficiency is increasingly important and can be the key to survival.

Solutions that were uninteresting until yesterday due to long investment return periods are becoming increasingly accessible and economically viable today. The development of new technologies has brought effective changes in the use of waste heat, which can be used for electricity generation or air conditioning and process cooling.

The Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is one of the most commonly used solutions for generating electricity from low-temperature heat sources. The heat source can be natural, such as geothermal energy, or waste heat from any number of industrial waste heat sources (waste air, flue gases, water and other media).

Thus, the system enables the sustainable utilization of existing thermal energy, which would otherwise be lost to the atmospher.

Advantages of the ORC process

The advantages of the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) process are obvious and strong arguments when it comes to sustainable energy production.

This also applies in the context of achieving the climate goals of the European Green Deal:

  • Sustainable, efficient and environmentally friendly energy production.
  • Electricity generation is independent of weather and seasonal fluctuations, unlike solar, wind and hydropower.

ORC can be used as an independent solution, but depending on the resource and potential, it can also be used in combination with other solutions such as cogeneration, etc.

Manufacturers state the electrical efficiency of the system between 5 and 25%, which depends on the system technology, heat potential and installation circumstances.

ELECTRICITY GENERATION
The organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is one of the most commonly used solutions for generating electricity from low-temperature heat sources. The heat source can be natural, such as geothermal energy, or waste heat from any number of industrial waste heat sources (waste air, flue gases, water and other media). The system thus allows the sustainable use of existing heat energy that would otherwise be lost to the atmosphere.
